FOOD USE POLICY
St James recognises that
- the current food system in the UK is unsustainable in this time of climate emergency and biodiversity loss;
- large amounts of food are wasted throughout the world;
- there is a need to move away from the production and consumption of meat, especially red meat;
- people's health would be improved by changing to a plant-based diet that does not rely on ultra-processed food;
- people's income limits the choices they are able to make.
1. We use fair-trade / organic sugar, tea and coffee
2. We aim to encourage a change in diet by setting practical examples:
- offer a plant-based alternative to milk at events such as fairs;
- offer a plant-based alternatives, e.g. vegan bacon, burgers at events
- offer vegan biscuits on a regular basis at coffee;
3. We encourage church members to attend local food rescue café, (such as the Open Table at Martin Way Methodist Church).
4. We publicise and contribute to the work of Abundance Wimbledon (preventing the waste of locally grown fruit)
